Teens
Ages 12 and up
Saturday from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m.
Taught by Sensei Goossens and Sensei Sullivan
We welcome teens of all genders, fitness levels, and experience to our teen class, which offers the chance to study a martial art in an atmosphere that’s rigorous, encouraging, and fun — not to mention that it’s the type of extra-curricular that looks great on a college application!
Karate is ideal for students age 12 and up who want to practice a physical discipline in a supportive community but who aren’t looking for a team sport. Karate helps cultivate technical discipline, self-defense, and fitness.
Our style is rooted in Okinawan martial arts, and we pass on those values and customs as part of practice, with a stress on courtesy and respect of fellow classmates as well as senior instructors.
We also emphasize mental focus and calm, and many teens apply the practices from classes to help them deal with the stresses and anxieties of daily life.
As students master techniques, they become eligible for rank promotion, including the junior black belt (for folks under 16) and full black belt (for ages 16 and up).
Classes are taught by an instructor and assistant instructor.
Some teens join the class after spending time in the kids’ class, while others come directly into teen class — we will work with your family to determine what works best for you.
Teen classes are $70/month.
Upon registration, you will also need to purchase a gi for $40.
We encourage families to observe a class and see if karate is a good fit for your teen.
