Northampton Karate has introduced hundreds of local children to martial arts over the years.

Our classes offer kids a focused way to channel their energy after sitting still at school all day. Our classes are both fun and focused — on any given day, kids can expect to practice some traditional Okinawan techniques, learn a little about the history of our form, take a turn hitting a heavy bag, and work cooperatively with partners. We teach self-discipline, perfection of technique, courtesy and respect, as well as tools to help them focus and deal with distractions in their lives.

Our curriculum encourages patience and progress, as well as the importance of using self defense in a controlled way by discouraging aggressive behavior. Students also learn leadership skills. We believe in peer mentoring, as more experienced kids work with newer students to help them grasp the techniques and customs of our style. Rank promotions (ie testing for a new belt) are based not just on mastery of technique but on understanding of these values.

We accept students as young as five; older students may eventually be invited to join our teen program. All genders and fitness levels are welcome.

Children's classes are $65/month, $180 quarterly.
Upon registration, you will also need to purchase a gi for $40.

We encourage you to call 413-222-1059 or email us to arrange a time to observe a class and see if karate is a good fit for your child:
