INSTRUCTORS FOR CHILDREN'S MARTIAL ARTS CLASSES

Elizabeth
Sullivan
Sullivan
Sensei has been practicing martial arts for over 25 years. She
instructs adults and serves as one of the primary children instructors
at the Northampton Karate Dojo. In addition to bringing her
valuable experience in working with kids she also serves as a female
role model for all participants. Betsy received an MEd degree
from Smith College and serves as an elementary school teacher
(over 20 years). She holds the rank of 4th degree black belt.

Jason
Foster
Foster Sensei has over 20
years of combined martial arts
training starting as a child
and picking up again as an
adult. He serves as one of
the primary kid's instructors
and has two children in the program. Mr. Foster
lived in Asia for seven years
where his appreciation for
martial arts and the culture
was enhanced. He graduated with a business degree from Emory University and as
an entrepreneur, is involved
with several different ventures.
He has attained the rank of 3rd degree black belt. |

Caitlin Carvalho Carvalho Sensei has over 15 years of combined martial arts training
starting in college and picking up again as an adult. She serves
as one of the children's and youth instructors and has three children in
both programs. Ms. Carvalho's experience working with children began
as a trained art teacher with a masters in art education from
Massacusetts College of Art. Caitlin is also the owner of a small
business in which she creates handmade women's clothing. She has
attained the rank of 3rd degree black belt.

Earl
Delue
Delue Sensei has been practicing martial arts for over 25 years
starting as a youth at Northampton Karate. In addition to instructing
adults, he serves as the primary youth instructor helping adolescents
train their body and mind through karate. He instructs Bo weapon to
brown belts and has extensive knowledge of Bo. Mr. DeLue taught
Spanish and Latin at JFK middle school and understands the challenges
youth face on a daily basis. In his spare time, Earl is an assistant
NHS football coach and enjoys kayaking. He holds the rank of 4th degree
black belt. |

Anna-Maria
Goossens
Goossens Sensei has been practicing
Okinawan Shorin Ryu karate
and been a member of Northampton
karate since 1996. She has
been instructing adult classes
for 15 years and has taught
weapons classes since 2003.
In addition to teaching at
the dojo, Ms Goossens serves
as the head karate instructor
for beginning children and
parents at the Hampshire
Regional YMCA. In her professional life
she is the public relations
director for the UMass Amherst
Department of Theater as well
as a free-lance writer and
copy editor. Anna-Maria is
also an avid runner who has
completed the Hartford Half
Marathon. She holds the rank
of 4th degree black belt. |

Rafael Cottom
Mr. Cottom has been practicing martial
arts and self defense for eight years. His training lies greatly within
the methods of Matsubayashi-ryu, yet he frequently utilizes techniques
and advice from a multitude of other disciplines. Rafael began training
at Northampton karate while he was still in Middle School, and
continued through high school. After graduating from high-school, he
returned to his home country, Greece, where he served in in his
country's Army Special Forces for roughly a year. He has been back with
us since Fall of 2016, and attends the kid's classes weekly as an
instructor. Mr. Cottom attends college nearby and holds the rank of 2nd degree black belt. |
